Terms of service

Last updated 21 August 2026

About these terms

These terms are the agreement between you and plotlingo for using plotlingo.com (the “service”). By using the service you accept them. If you don't accept them, please don't use the service. If you have questions, contact us.

The service

plotlingo is a reading app for learning languages: interactive short stories that start mostly in English and hand over more and more words to the language you're learning (currently Spanish, French and German), at your pace. Some features — like uploading your own stories — may be offered later or only on paid plans.

Accounts

  • Give us accurate information, keep your credentials safe, and use one account per person.
  • You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the EEA and UK).
  • You can close your account at any time by contacting us; see the privacy policy for what deletion means.
  • We may suspend accounts that break these terms or the law.

Acceptable use

  • Don't use the service for anything unlawful, or to harm, harass or defraud anyone.
  • Don't scrape, resell or redistribute the service or its content, or run automated traffic against it.
  • Don't upload stories you don't have the rights to use, or content that is unlawful, hateful or harmful.
  • Don't try to break the service's security or availability.

Your content

Stories you upload remain yours — you keep ownership. To operate the service, you grant plotlingo a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, store, reproduce, process and display that content, solely to provide the service to you. Processing includes splitting stories into scenes and translating them using third-party AI services; don't upload confidential material you wouldn't trust to a cloud translation provider. You can delete your stories at any time, and deletion removes them from the service.

Our content

The plotlingo site, catalog stories, software, translations and branding are owned by plotlingo or its licensors. Personal use through the service is fine; copying, reselling or building on it without permission is not.

Subscriptions and payment

  • Paid plans are billed through Stripe, on the cycle and at the price shown at checkout, taxes included where applicable.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel any time; you keep access until the end of the paid period.
  • We may change prices for new subscription periods with reasonable notice; a change never applies mid-period without your acceptance.

Cancellation and refunds

The service is digital and delivered immediately. If you're an EU/UK consumer, the 14-day right of withdrawal doesn't apply once a subscription period's digital content has been supplied and you have acknowledged this at sign-up; this doesn't affect rights you have that can't be excluded. If something went clearly wrong — a duplicate charge, a broken feature you paid for — write to hello@plotlingo.com and we'll make it right.

AI-assisted content

Translations, word breakdowns and images in the app are AI-assisted and may contain mistakes. They're made for reading practice, not as a substitute for professional translation or teaching.

Availability and changes

We aim to keep the service running, but it's provided “as is”: features may change or be suspended (beta features especially), and we can't promise uninterrupted access.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, plotlingo isn't liable for indirect or consequential damages, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for fraud, gross negligence, or rights the law doesn't let us limit — including statutory consumer rights.

Termination

You can stop using the service at any time. We may restrict or terminate accounts that break these terms, with notice where practical. On termination, your content is handled as described in the privacy policy.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service grows. We'll post changes here and update the date; for material changes we'll announce them in the app or by email in advance. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the law of the plotlingo operator's country of residence; wherever you live, the mandatory consumer-protection law of your country of residence still applies. Anything else: hello@plotlingo.com. See also the privacy policy.
