Questions
Reading is how you learned most of the words you know in English. Plotlingo puts a few Spanish words into a story you want to finish and brings them back again and again. A short review then checks them just before you'd forget them. Chapter by chapter, more of the page turns Spanish: single words, then phrases, then whole sentences.
Not at all. If you're brand new, the first chapter has only a handful of Spanish words and the English around them carries the meaning. If you already know some, tell us when you start, and your first page will have more Spanish.
Plotlingo teaches you to read and understand Spanish, not to hold a conversation. But you'll learn hundreds of everyday words and phrases and can hear each one said, which makes speaking, classes and tutors much easier.
No. We translate by meaning, a phrase at a time, so every bit of Spanish you see is how a Spanish speaker would really say it, never a word-for-word swap. As you learn more words, more sentences turn fully Spanish.
A chapter takes about six minutes, a quick read four. There's no lesson plan to keep up with and nothing to fall behind on: read when you'd read anyway, on the bus, in bed or with a coffee.
Tap it to see what it means and hear it said. Turn on Meanings above new words in Settings to see the English above each new word the first time it appears. You can also tap any paragraph to read it all in English or all in Spanish.
Neutral Latin American Spanish, understood everywhere from Mexico City to Madrid. Where the two differ, we aim for the word that works on both sides of the Atlantic.
There are no lessons or grammar exercises, just a short review of the words you've met. You learn the way you picked up words as a child: by meeting them again and again inside something you actually want to read. It also works well next to a course or another app.
No. The classics are the original English text, unabridged. You're reading exactly what Austen, Conan Doyle, Stevenson, Saki, O. Henry and Poe wrote. Plotlingo only changes how much of it is in Spanish.
We keep adding chapters, books and quick reads, and the words you've learned carry over, so each new book starts with more Spanish than the last.
Translations are AI-assisted, written phrase by phrase and checked against the English line by line. If you spot something odd, tell us and we'll fix it.
