Privacy policy
The short version
- You make an account with an email address; we store that plus your reading progress and word history — that is the whole point of the service.
- Stories you upload (when that feature is available) are processed by AI providers to split and translate them. Don't upload anything you wouldn't share with a translation service.
- Payments go through Stripe. We never see your card number.
- We don't sell your data, and we run no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
- Email hello@plotlingo.com to see or delete everything we hold about you.
Who we are
plotlingo (plotlingo.com) is an independent language-reading app. For the purposes of data protection law, plotlingo is the controller of the personal data described here. You can reach us at hello@plotlingo.com.
What we collect, and why
Account data
The email address and name you sign up with. Used to create and secure your account, and to answer you when you write to us. Legal basis: performing the contract with you.
Learning data
The language you're learning and your level, the words you tap and how you rate them, story progress and reading days. This is the product: it's what lets stories meet you at your vocabulary. Legal basis: performing the contract.
Stories you upload
When the upload feature is available: the story text you submit is sent to AI model providers (via OpenRouter) to be split into scenes and translated, and the processed story is stored with your account. Uploaded text is only shown to you. Don't submit confidential or sensitive material — treat it like handing text to any cloud translation service. Legal basis: performing the contract.
Payment data
Subscriptions are handled by Stripe. Card details go to Stripe, never to us; we receive your subscription status and plan so the app knows what you have access to. Legal basis: performing the contract.
Technical data
The site runs on Cloudflare, which keeps standard request logs (such as IP address) for security and abuse prevention. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookie-free and shows only aggregate traffic. Legal basis: legitimate interest in running and securing the service.
Your device
Reading preferences are also cached in your browser's local storage so the app works between visits. Clearing site data in your browser removes this copy.
Who else gets your data
- Supabase — accounts and the database holding the items above.
- Cloudflare — hosting, delivery, and aggregate analytics.
- Stripe — payments and receipts.
- OpenRouter and its underlying AI providers — processing of stories you upload.
Each receives only what its job requires. We don't sell or rent personal data to anyone, and we don't use it for advertising.
Where it lives
Our providers store and process data in the EU and the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA or UK, it is protected by safeguards such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (for certified providers) or standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
Account and learning data are kept while your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account, we remove this data within 30 days (backups are purged within 90 days). Stripe retains payment records as required by its own obligations.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or export your personal data, to object to processing carried out under legitimate interest, and to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. If you're a California resident, you can request disclosure of the categories of personal information we hold and its deletion — and we don't sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. To use any of these rights, email hello@plotlingo.com — it's free, and using it never affects your access to the service.
Children
plotlingo is not directed to children under 13 (16 in the EEA and UK), and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Cookies
We use only strictly necessary cookies (keeping you signed in). There are no advertising, analytics or cross-site tracking cookies, so there's nothing to consent to and no banner to click through.
Changes to this policy
If the policy changes, we'll update this page and its date, and announce material changes in the app or by email before they take effect.
